A Show and tell welcome

Many months ago I wrapped up writing a debut novel called Brown River. It was a story I had been working on for two years, but by the end I was pooped. I felt like a junior swimmer breaststroking his way across the English Channel. I wondered if I would make it.

Fortunately with the help of a few gracious friends and few strokes of luck, I made it. It was done, and I was antsy to crawl out from under my creative rock and share the damn thing. I told everyone I knew. Parents and mentors and neighbors and the lady-I-met-once-randomly.

Everyone was excited and congratulatory, but plenty of people were surprised also.

‘A book? I didn’t know you were writing a book?’

Yes, I’d say bashfully. Here it is. I hope you like it.

It was a closet novel, a story I had sprung upon them like a jack-in-the-box. Maybe that’s no crime, but as I reflected on the way things went I decided I’d like to do it differently going forward. Very simply: I’d like to share more. I’d like to share what I’m working on and what I’m learning.

That’s what this site is for. It explores making art and living better through that art. As you peruse these posts I hope you do not hear the voice of some disembodied ‘creativity expert’ ranting and raving. Instead I hope you hear the voice of a friend you might meet in the sandbox and build castles with.

Thanks for tuning in.
